Can I use ceiling tile for a kitchen backsplash?

Date July 13, 2009

I spend more time in my kitchen than I do anywhere else in my home. I want to spruce up my 60′s green kitchen before I return to teaching in August. I want to replace the current white and green marble formica backsplash with tin ceiling tile. Is this possible?

I have found a distributor that has 2′ x 2′ sections for .25 in the steel color I want. I am using steel because it is basic for the colors I have picked and will blend well. I don’t know whether to use the nail up or drop in. I thinking nail up with cornices. The backsplash will cover the area around my countertops and the back of the stove.

Only if you like the spotted look, ceiling tile is not used or should I say made to with stand water,

is it the drop ceiling tiles because i have never heaerd of any one using them for a back splash but also im not sure if that would be a good choice, im not sure how stain resistant they are.. you know froom cooking stains and all that…

That’s creative! You can certainly do it, but be sure to caulk anywhere water might get behind it.

Stainless steel is easier to keep clean but then you wouldn’t get the color you want…

yes it can be done, lots of people are doing that with copper tiles, it might not be a bad idea to coat it with poly or lacquer so it will be easy to clean, you can just nail them on and clear silicone and gaps
