can you install glass tile onto drywall?

My husband is installing my backsplash in my kitchen and has done floors forever. He is new to backsplashes. Can he install the tile straight onto the drywall as long as it is clean and dry? And what is the best glue to use?

Yes that is fine it will do no harm until you come to take them off and it will rip the drywall off. I can not recommend a specific resin but i would suggest one that will come off easy in the future but still do the job in hand at the moment.

I always use James Hardie tile-backer behind all tile except floor tile on concrete, but you can adhere splash tile directly to sheetrock (drywall) with pretty good results. Use the same adhesive you’d use for ceramic or porcelain tile — from Lowe’s or Home Depot in the tile department. After grouting it in, I’d apply a sealer to the grout to minimize the effect of water trying to get through to the drywall — drywall doesn’t like water at all; turns it to mush.

You can install the tiles directly on but it is not advisable without any treatment.
Apply a coat or 2 urethane clear on the dry wall to protect against any potential water seepage.
Allow dry and install your tiles, no special tile adhesive is needed, the common one will do.
Lastly, ensure the filling of groove lines is done properly to eliminate any possible voids.
