Can you put a tile floor over another tile floor?

I removed 3 layers of linolium from my little hall way and found old tile underneath it all. It's most likely the orginal tile work from the 1930's 1 inch by 2 inch tiny tiles linked together. I'm looking to put in a new tile floor either slate or peal and stick linolium.

Yes you can put new ceramic or slate tile down over existing ceramic tile. The existing tile must be in good solid condition.
Use a good quality thin set motor. Also be aware that this will raise the level of the floor slightly. Doors jambs and doors will need to be undercut.

can we say cheap and tacky. I have been in design and construction for 13 years if you put tile on top of tile yes it will hold for awhile but then it will crack your floor is not level to begin with and if you chop up your doors and trim (base moulding) your going to have to replace it all when you have to rip it up anyway your home is the most expensive investment do it right or dont do it. it will cost 300 to hire two guys to rip it up for you and lay down new sub floor it will cost you thre times as much to do it later on and of course your new floor will look like ca ca not to mention door ways where there are diffrent types of floors how will they meet your going to find very ugly and over sized saddles are the only way to solve that issue watch the money pit once you start some thing be ready for another issue
PS dont get mad at the tile guy when you dont like the way it looks

Hello, I noticed you also said or peal and stick linolium…that requires FLAT surface for it to stick…depending on how grout was applied in the 30s and 70 years + of settling…are there gullies or spaces of grout missing…if so you MUST fill those in before laying stick ons…if not.. "DIMPLES" will form under linoleum and if that is at a seam…it cracks…Happy work…God Bless!! Mary
