Homemade mosaic crafts with kids?

Date August 27, 2010

I have some glass bottles that I’ve been holding on to, thinking I could do an art project with my nieces.

I have found some suggestions online and a lot of them suggest using broken glass and some type of tile adhesive. I was wondering if anyone had experience with this type of activity and what brand/type of adhesive works best. I don’t want to go to the store and look like a fool.

Thanks!

Your best bet is to go to places like Michaels, Hobby Lobby, A.C. Moore, Ben Franklins, Tall Mouse or any large craft store in your area. They should have a section for mosaic stuff.
Hardware stores carry alot of these items as well.
For first project I would do a tray. Unfinished wooden trays can be found at most craft stores. Plaster of Paris spread on it and the glass and tile placed on this. Let dry, then put your grout on. Since your peices of glass are coming from bottles you have to be careful you place them curved side down, otherwise you may have sharp edges sticking up. Not Good.
Another project would be stepping stones. You would use cement and a form, push the glass and tile pieces into the cement and let dry.
