how do i smooth out the edge of a mosaic backsplash?
April 12, 2009
I’m doing a backsplash myself w/meshbacked tiles and I have finished one wall…but on the side, the mosaic is just free standing, in other words, it’s not backed up against anything. So the tiles are just there with no smooth edge or anything. Do I use caulk? How do I make it look more finished?

Theres a couple of options. You can paint that edge w/ your wall paint and a artists brush. You can tale a small pc of wood molding and glue into place to trim it out. Prefinish it 1 st. Or most common is to grout the edge and smooth it out to cover the edge if there is no bull nose edging . Any questions you can e mail me GL

Take a couple of pics & upload them to a photo website we can access…it’s hard to visualize exactly what you’re talking about.

Are the tiles sticking out past the wall? And if so how much? You might want to trim them off with a rotozip tool and a tile cutting bit. If it’s less than 1/4″ then a little caulk behind the edge would be fine. If you trim them off you can smooth them out with a rough file or coarse sandpaper.

Don’t leave the tiles “standing”.
Either ‘dress` them off or back them.
