I am building a shower room. Can I use flagstone chips on the wall?

I have a ton of flagstone and it is pretty easy to chip of thin pieces about 4 inches by 4 inches. I was thinking of doing a mosaic effect with them on three walls of the shower room in the bathroom and setting it off with some gray tile on the floor.
Does that sound doable and will the flagstone work on the shower walls?

It can be done, but you need to consider the long term look of that material. Flagstone tend to shear off in layers like slate, so thin pieces can shear off. Flagstone is strongest installed horizontally. Another potential problem with using Flagstone is the maintenance, it’s uneven surface will tend to collect soap scum and hard water staining.

Flagstone can work for a shower, its used a lot for fireplaces. But make sure its sealed really well. Flagstone is softer and more porous than other stone, so you may want to use 3-4 coats of stone sealant.
