Is a kitchen backsplash required for an occupancy permit?

Date May 30, 2009

We have all the counters installed, but the tile backsplash is going to take over 2 weeks to arrive. We need an occupancy permit prior to that. This is in Maryland.

Backsplashes are never requirements…most of the time they are purely aesthetic, but they are useful to messy cooks and high traffic kitchens. You're fine…….

Call the people who issue the occupancy certificate. They are the ones to answer your question.

Back splashes are not a necessity, and are purely a source of decoration. You should be fine! Good luck!
