is there such a thing as pre mosaiced tiles?

I am going to be painting a portrait on my wall, I wanted it to have a mosaic look because the portrait I will be painting is that of a Super Mario Bros. screen shot. mosiac=pixel video gaming goodness…..so yea I was wondering if they had bigger tiles that had the appearance of mosaic tiles.

if you are painting it then what are the tiles for?

Yes there is. They are small tiles glued to a mesh backing so you don't have to lay tiny tiles. But for your needs I would recommend making a painted tile mural, a set of tiles that you paint with a design and have them fired so you can lay the entire mural with normal 4×4 or 6×6 tiles. Search the web using the keywords "tile mural" and you can find several companies that can help with the process or do it all for you.
