Been doing tile for over 20 years and I looked at the link the Diva sent about kitchen splash and mosaic. It was one of the better ones that you ll see out there as far as the basic techniques.
They show a plastic film being taken off the tile. I ve never seen it with plastic( but I m sure there are some). Most all the ones I ve done have a paper covering the face . This must be soaked completely to get the paper to release after the tile is set up and adhered to the wall..

There's a show about how to do this on DIY network tonight at 8:30 pm pacific time…you should watch it. If you can't, I bet they'll have info online.
