I’m almost done with art school, and I need to complete a project that can either be a collage, a sculpture, or a mosaic. It needs to combine three of my interests, which I chose to be comic books, horror movies, and music.
It’s due in a month and I’m totally brain-dead from everything else that’s been going on, so does anybody have any suggestions or ideas on what I could do?
I want to cut down some great colored Tarkett VCTiles into smaller rectangles (think subway tile) and apply them as a retro 50′s type backsplash in my kitchen. They will get very little water contact so I’m not worried about that and I plan to coat and polish them to a shiny finish. This is NOT self stick stuff, the 12×12 industrial squares that look like linoelum. Has anyone had any luck fixing these to a painted/sheetrock wall? Is there a contact cement or spray adhesive that would work better/easier than a traditional troweled on floor adhesive?

Hello, we are currently building our house and we are at the bricking the walls stage so we have some time to choose flooring, fittings etc, but of course I want to get it right….you can change decor, repaint, but changing the flooring is a biatch and most people don’t change them once their done.
I really want wooden flooring throughout the house (excepting only bathroom and laundry) I want it in the kitchen, living rooms and all bedrooms. I have lived in houses with carpet…..which suck because you cant pick them up like a rug and beat them or really clean them well without a great amount of difficulty….and I get a stuffy nose from carpets. I’ve lived with slate which I think looks ugly and is difficult to clean and keep looking nice because its all uneven. I’ve lived with tiles, which I don’t like because they are cold in Winter and show up dirt and spills so easily…sneeze and you have to mop.
So I decided on wood. But real wood not like fake wood like lino or crappy parquet. Some people told me to put a light coloured wood, because dark wood sucks up the light and shows up dust and footprints. And I’ve heard you have to choose a hard, hard wood, so you don’t get pock marks from high-heels, pumps whatever. And I’d assume you’d have to be careful about polish? So you wont slip in the Winter with socks and the rugs wont slip as you walk on them.
Help! What do you have, what do you like/don’t like, advice, ideas…anything I can google and take a look at.
Why is it that religious Jews use one set of dishes and utensils for meat, and a different set for dairy? Most of Mosaic laws governing food consumption make sense, but the plates and utensil ruling gives me great cause to wonder. And before I forget, why can’t a glass of milk wash down a hamburger? Better yet, why is topping a hamburger with cheese also a no no? Will some nice Jewish person out there help me out on this? Like meaningfully. Please? Mike
my mum’s birthday comes in 2 days’ time. she’s 48 this year, loves pigs (but she’s got loads of figurines and pig stuffs we got for her), loves beautiful things like a typical woman
and we always get her some store-bought gift tgt with a gift card we make, but this year we want to do something different. i want to make a nice gift for her.. it’s either this, or i go and buy a hamper with assorted bath stuff like soaps, aromatic oils etc. but those kind of hampers are too commercialised! i want something more personal..
any ideas?
PS: oh yea, i’m 19 btw, so i shld be able to do most stuff, only except those with very difficult to find items or those that require tools i dont have eg for making mosaic mirrors/lamp shades
i thot of taking mum out for dins, but my bro didnt want to, and i dont have enough money to treat her to a nice, posh, high-class dinner. (and i have to pay for my bro too) and if we do go, she’ll still have to drive x)
i baked a brownie cake last night, hopefully it turns out nice as i have never ever baked before, and i didnt even know how to beat the mixture properly =X
thanks for the ideas, guys! i’ll try making sth else for her too.
I was told I needed to "seal" the grout on my floors as they were just installed. I have two different types of tile: one, is ceramic but not the"glazed" kind ( I guess) as it does not shine. The second one is standard bathroom tile, the kind that shines. I got two types of sealer, both are the Du Pont brand. One says it is a "grout" sealer but comes in a very small bottle. I ran out of that one already. The other one is a "stone" sealer (label says it is for granite, marble, travertine and slate. Can I use this last one as my grout sealer? Will it be effective? What is the difference?
I want to spray over the tile on the wall . Make it look textured. But I do not want to catch my house on fire when I want to cook a couple days after it dries. Does anyone know if textured stone spray paint is highly flammable or not ?

Just like the title says, what do you think about this sink: http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=140346926235&ssPageName=ADME:B:WNAFP:US:1123

Flooring will be Kund multicoloured slate.
At first I didnt know what to think about the sink, but then I kept looking at it, and it is starting to grow on me. I like the square shape, and the blues now. I think it needs some contrast from the heavy natural slate.
i live in seattle , and i need to get a mosaic table custom made.. most of the places that i’ve contacted just store tiles or just do home projects but i cant seem to find anyone who makes mosaic furniture. Does anyone know where i can get one made?
I don’t remember the exact plot, but I do remember the book largely had to do with an old woman smashing her enormous glass collection: figurines, sculptures, dishware, vases, to make mosaics. And started like, a community project with it or something. Does that ring any bells for anyone?
