A woman’s in her huge, remodeled kitchen with slate or hardwood floors, cherry cabinets, granite countertop and Ann Sacks tile backsplash, and stainless steel appliances. She’s cooking food she bought at Whole Foods.
Her husband walks in with a latte he bought at Starbucks on his way home from work, a commute he enjoys in his Lexus. He opens the mail to see his tickets for a cruise he’s going to take in the Carib the coming February. He flips on the 72 inch flat screen tv and watches Lou Dobbs rail about how everything is worse than it was a generation ago, and he sends his buddy a text message saying you have to watch this, Dobbs is right?????
Is it that, while he’s better off, his buddy is better off, everyone they both know is better off, they’re convinced that somewhere out there are tens of millions of people who are somehow worse off?
"When the collapse comes" – what collapse? You folks have been saying that for over 25 years now.
Shhhhhh John that Honduran housekeeper counts in the population survey conducted by the Census Bureau – which is the ONLY basis for people being able to say there are more poor people!
Um, Elway of those 45 million without health INSURANCE, more than half are immigrants from poor countries.

i really love mosiac decor. i always see pretty vases, etc with that beautiful sparkling glass. i want to make my own! preferably some kind of indoor decor, like a trunk or table coasters. problem is i have no idea where to start or what i need! please help!
We are remodeling our kitchen and are installing a granite countertop. We’ve picked out a great tile to go with it and plan to tile the entire backsplash. Our granite guy is insisting that we go with a 4" granite backsplash and then tile above that. I think he’s just insisting that to sell more granite.
What is normal? All of the backsplash being tile or a 4" granite piece and then the tile backsplash? My initial preference is to tile only, but I want to be sure that there is no reason that the 4" granite piece is there as well and since I know my granite guy only wants to sell more granite, I would like to hear other opinions….
This is not slate tile but actual chunks of slate. Carpet installers installers were pushing their metal boxes and tools around and now there are all kinds of criss/cross scratches over the slate. I tried to put a floor shine over them but the scratches are still very vivid. What can I do to get rid of those white scratches. They look terrible. The carpet supplier and installer both are totally ignoring my complaint.
i want to start creating tile mosaics can i put it on canvas and if so what should i use to make it stick and do you know of good places in new york to get tiles
I’m thinking about broadening my field of expertise(I paint murals) to include painted backsplashes for kitchens and elsewhere. I bought a book on how to lay ceramic tile, I just need to know if there’s anyone out there with experience in this, and how they felt about it, any ideas?
I have never lived in a house with wooden floors, but I have lived with, carpet, slate and tiles and I don’t like any of them. I really want wooden floors in our new house but my husband is whining and finding every excuse possible to not have them, the latest excuse is that they take a lot of upkeep, something ‘he was told’. Some random person on the street could tell him that the sky is really pink and all humans are colour blind and he’d believe them I’d swear.
So, do wooden floors really take up a lot of upkeep, or is that a lot of bull. I wanted hard wood floors in a lighter colour so as to not show up so much dust and footprints.
Do you have to wax them and reseal them every few years, or do modern sealants last longer?
my mum’s birthday comes in 2 days’ time. she’s 48 this year, loves pigs (but she’s got loads of figurines and pig stuffs we got for her), loves beautiful things like a typical woman
and we always get her some store-bought gift tgt with a gift card we make, but this year we want to do something different. i want to make a nice gift for her.. it’s either this, or i go and buy a hamper with assorted bath stuff like soaps, aromatic oils etc. but those kind of hampers are too commercialised! i want something more personal..
any ideas?
PS: oh yea, i’m 19 btw, so i shld be able to do most stuff, only except those with very difficult to find items or those that require tools i dont have eg for making mosaic mirrors/lamp shades

This is pretty much the color palate I am going for. I love blue, white and brown together. Would this bathroom (for example) look good with slate gray tiles. It is basically the all the colors, with the exception of the floor. I already have those.
