Simple Kitchen Backsplash Ideas :TILING A KITCHEN BACKSPLASH?

Date July 19, 2009

THIS IS MY FIRST TILING PROJECT. I AM INSTALLING A KITCHEN BACKSPLASH ON SHEETROCK USING 4.5" X 4.5" PORCELAIN TILES. USING OMNIGRIP MASTIC APPLIED WITH A 1/4" X 3/16" V-NOTCH TROWEL. THE TILES HAVE A WAFFLE PATTERN BACK. MY CONCERN IS DO I HAVE TO FILL IN THE WAFFLE DEPRESSIONS, WHICH ARE ABOUT 1/16" DEEP,BY BACK BUTTERING PRIOR TO PLACING TILE IN THE COMBED MASTIC. ALSO, IS THE TROWEL SIZE CORRECT?
THANKS!

The trowel size is correct for mastic . The only way to find if you ll get correct coverage is to spread some mastic and set , wiggle ( the tile , not you) and then pull it to see if you ll get at least 80% coverage. If your not, you ll have to back butter the tiles
Any questions you can e mail me through my avatar and check my qualifications there.. GL
