slate in a leopard geckos tank?

ok soon im gettin a leo and im gunna use slate as a substrate atm i have a big slab of slate that would fit into a 20 gal perfect and i was wondering dose the slate have to be like slate floor tiles or can it just be a slab of smooth slate like i have ??

    The slate will be fine, just make sure it is clean and also that he will have a place to hide. Slate can get cold so make sure that he has appropriate heat source s, uva and uvb lights and all that. Good luck with him, and kudos to you for doing your research on proper habitats!

    Sand is what leopard geckos are really used to yet however, using it is a problem. First, you have to buy sand from pet shops which will not be harmful if digested by your leopard gecko. Normal sand may cause your gecko to be sick.
    Also, sand is difficult to clean!

    Therefore, the recommended substrate is cage carpet. It is safe and easy to clean! You will find it at any pet shop too.
