what do i stick a slate floor down with?

i want to lay a slate tiles on my kitchening floor .as the floor used to be painted and i don’t want the slates to be to high off the base level what do i bond them to the floor with?i was thinking of using cement but was unsure if a thin bed would bond them in place?any help or suggestions would be a Great help. thanks.

    why not just use floor tile adhesive? if its on concrete use normal if its a wooden floor then you need flexible

    Thin Set should do the trick.
