What size tiles for kitchen backsplash?

Date May 22, 2009

Just painted my cabinets cream color, installed stainless appliances, a brazilian teak floor and black/brownish granite countertops. What size tiles for the backsplash? I don't want a big statement, just simple cream tiles. Thanks

1" x 1" glass tiles are hot right now. These are usually attached to a fibrous mesh and sold in 1 sq. ft. sheets. This is a more costly option than ceramic, but they do give the kitchen an upscale look.

Something like this might be what you're looking for:

4"x4" or 6"x6" are standard sizes, your preference

Since your having such plain colors… you need some detail here. Go with small tiles … maybe even some small tiles that have a very suble design.

Definitely go with small tiles… one inch by one inch.

I am thinking of small tiles that maybe have a block of 12 small tiles and then one center one is a textured tile with some sort of color to it. Very subtle pattern…. it will keep the kitchen from looking too boring.

People expect to see 4×4 – anything bigger or smaller and it'll be more noticeable.

How do you like the teak floor?

Back splashes for many years were alway 31/2 or 4 inches…I'm surprized your countertop people didn't install your backsplash………………..check your wiring out let location so as not to require a lot of extra cutting………have a nice evening…….bye.

Personal choice, but over the years I ve put up more 4×4 than any other size.. measure from top to bottom . That size may help determine what you use.You don t want a small small cut at the top. Cut pieces of paper and tape up there to see what you like better.. Sometimes a small liner to add just a bit of color will work for you. With a granite top I usually do a natural stone product.. They come in many cream or natural colors and look neutral.. Explore the many possibilities ,, GL
