Where can I find discontinued or clearance mosaic tiles for a backsplash?

Date May 12, 2010

I’m renovating my kitchen and I am planning a mosaic tile backsplash. I only need about 30 s/f of tile, and I refuse to pay per tile (like at my local home improvement store). A small backsplash like that shouldn’t have to cost 0+!!!

I’ve already checked craigslist and did a google search, so far nothing promising has popped up. Is there anyplace I can find it online for around or less per s/f?

Look for a Habitat for Humanity Resale Store in your area. They’re filled with bargains like this.

Also check the phone book for salvagers who pick up things like this in buildings which are to be demolished.

Find a place which makes custom tiles and ask if they ever have tiles which weren’t picked up or which were rejected for some small flaw.

Try the high school/college/tech school art dept. Some have sales near the end of the year (like now). An art college is another place to try, but they might not have bargain prices.

you might try the craft stores, I have seen glazed tiles and some you can paint yourself, sorry don’t remember the cost, but worth a try, good luck
